We Have Rooms!

We are really excited about the progress on our house! We have discovered that the best thing about building in a recession is that all of the subcontractors are anxious for work, and we are currently ahead of schedule. We make a daily trek out to the house to see everything new that has happened. Carson loves to explore and find cool things like nails and wood scraps. He also thinks it's great that he can run through the wall much easier than we can and it's really hard to catch him. Adults don't fit in between studs quite like toddlers. We are currently without a railing and doors, so it makes for a very worried mom when he is running around. Most of the time we are holding him and he asking us to put him down. Caleb doesn't get nearly as excited about it as Carson, but he is a great trooper to go on lots of car rides out there. He is usually happier to be home.

How Firm a Foundation

(I wonder how many of these blog posts will have church songs for titles.)

As soon as we dug the hole, we did our best to fill it right back up. The foundation is done and looking good so far. We now at least have a footprint of the house that will one day be ours. I may just set up a tent in the middle of it and start sleeping there next week.

Here is a picture from below. Carson and I summitted the hill in the backyard together, which makes this picture of the house look much bigger than it probably really is.

And just for good measure, a picture from the top of the same hill in the backyard.

A Wise Man Built His House Upon a Rock

In our case, it is built on lots of rocks. Lots and lots and lots of them. So many rocks, in fact, that the excavator decided his one-day job is actually going to take a day and a half. We don't mind, though, the build has finally started. It felt like Christmas today as we eagerly waited to be able to run out to the lot first thing in the morning. Neither of us even slept the night before (although that had more to do with a sick 19 month old and a restless 6 month old than it did with our excitement).

We'll call this Day 1... easy to remember, what with it being March 1st and all. I'm sure there will be more posts on days ahead. For now, some photos...

A Sample of the Aforementioned Rocks
(It doesn't look like much in the photo, but trust me, it will look great in our landscaping.)
